A domino has two fields with dots.
One field is empty. Its dots are missing.
On the right you see how many dots both fields should be together.
Draw the missing dots and write the number in the box.
The filled-in example below shows the answer.
Example
- 3 + 4 = 7
- 2 + 4 = 6
For parents
What does this exercise practice?
Completing to a target sum trains flexible number decomposition and prepares subtraction as the reverse of addition.
Common pitfalls
Some children add the visible number and the target. But what is wanted is the amount left up to the target.
How to practice at home
With real dominoes cover one half and let the child guess how many dots are underneath.
