Each card has a number on it. The math sign between the cards tells you what to do.
If there is a + between them: add the two numbers together. With 2 + 5 you put 2 and 5 together, that makes 7.
If there is a − between them: take away from the first number as much as the second card says. With 9 − 4 there are 5 left.
Write the result after the equals sign.

What does this exercise practice?
This task practices basic arithmetic in a playful card setting: children practice addition and subtraction and learn to apply different operations flexibly.
Common pitfalls
The cards look the same for plus and minus, only the sign changes, and it is easily missed. It helps to name the sign out loud first: add or take away?
How to practice at home
Take a real deck of cards and each draw two cards. Whoever says the correct sum first keeps both cards. The game works right away and needs no preparation.
