For parents

What does this exercise practice?

The child reads the length of each pen off the ruler and writes it down, the basis of all measuring.

Common pitfalls

Count up to the tip, and every pen starts at 0. Counting the first mark as 1 gives a length that is one too long.

How to practice at home

Measure pencils, spoons or books with a ruler, write down the centimeters and then compare the numbers.
