Counting dominoes

A domino tile has two halves with dots (pips).
Count the dots on the left and the dots on the right, then add them together.

Example: There are 2 dots on the left and 4 dots on the right.
2 + 4 = 6, so the tile shows 6 dots.

Tip: An empty half counts as 0.
The numbers filled in show the solution.

Example

2 + 4 = 6
0 + 6 = 6

For parents

What does this exercise practice?

Grasp quantities quickly and add them in your head.

Common pitfalls

An empty half is easily overlooked; it counts as 0, not as 1.

How to practice at home
