Work out one ingredient at a time. Steps make it easier: 24 is 20 and 4. Three times 20 is 60, three times 4 is 12, together 72.

What does this exercise practice?
The task practices multiplying within 100 while keeping every amount with its own ingredient. Splitting into tens and ones prepares the way for written-in-steps arithmetic.
Common pitfalls
Some children add all the ingredients into one single number. That makes no sense here - rocks and diamonds stay apart. Point at one picture and ask only about that one ingredient.
How to practice at home
Convert recipes from a cookbook to three times the amount: 25 grams of butter, 12 spoons of flour. Each ingredient is converted on its own, exactly as here.
