Stops sit along the line. Each stop has a minute number.
The gap between two stops shows how long the ride takes.
Example: The station is at minute 0, the market at minute 8.
So the ride from the station to the market takes 8 minutes.
Tip: Subtract the smaller minute number from the larger one.

What does this exercise practice?
Read a travel time as the difference of two minute values on a scaled axis.
Common pitfalls
Children sometimes count the stops in between instead of subtracting the minutes. The result is only right by chance if every leg takes the same time.
How to practice at home
Look at a real bus timetable together and work out how long the ride between two stops takes.
