At the end of a game you count what you have built. Each row says how many things of one kind you have and how many points one of them is worth.
Row by row, work out number times value and write the result into the box on the right. Below the line comes the total of all points.
Sometimes the total is already there and one row is missing its number. Then you work backwards - do the other rows, take them off the total and divide by the value.

What does this exercise practice?
Final scoring gives multiplication a reason. The child does not do four times-tables tasks, it scores a game result, and only the total answers the question. The backwards variant practices division as the inverse of multiplication where it really pays off.
Common pitfalls
It is tempting to add the two numbers in a row instead of multiplying them. The question "how many points does ONE piece give?" helps - after that it is clear that six pieces give six times as many points.
How to practice at home
After a board game, add up the points together on a sheet of paper - one row per kind. Then cover one row and work out from the final score what it said.
