Several bars lie next to a ruler.
You need to find out how long each bar is.
Here's how:
1. Read off how far each bar reaches.
2. Write the length in the box behind the bar.
3. Compare the numbers: the biggest one belongs to the longest bar.
The numbers filled in show the solution.
Example
For parents
What does this exercise practice?
Read and compare lengths and confidently use the terms longer, shorter, longest and shortest.
Common pitfalls
Children sometimes only look at the right end without checking whether all bars start at the same point. Check the starting point first, then compare.
How to practice at home
Place three objects side by side and order them by size, then measure them with a ruler.
