Different shapes are mixed together in a row.
Sometimes you count one shape, sometimes the question asks for a property.
Here's how:
1. Read the question: are you looking for a shape (triangle, circle) or for a property?
2. With a property, check every shape one by one. A square, a rectangle and a rhombus have four corners. A right angle fits rectangles and squares, but not rhombi.
3. Go through the row from left to right and count only the matching shapes.
The number filled in shows the solution.

Sort shapes by properties such as corner count and right angles, and count them systematically.
Common pitfalls
Children jump back and forth in the row while counting and count shapes twice. Tapping through the row with a finger helps. For property questions, it helps to say first which shapes qualify at all before counting.
