Every solid is built up from faces.
You write down how often you need each face to build the solid.
This is how you do it:
1. Look closely at the solid, including the sides you cannot see.
2. Count how often each shape appears.
3. Cube example: 6 squares, nothing else.
The numbers written in show the answer.
Example

Triangle 0
Square 0

For parents
What does this exercise practice?
Mentally break solids down into their faces and understand the connection between solids and flat shapes.
Common pitfalls
Children often forget hidden faces, such as the bottom of a cylinder. Have them mentally turn the solid all the way around.
How to practice at home
Cut open a cereal box and unfold it. This way you can see all the faces at a glance.
