A period of time tells you how much time passes between two clock times.
This is how you do it:
1. Read off the start time and the end time.
2. First count up to the next full hour, then carry on in big steps.
3. Example: from 8:15 to 9:00 there are 45 minutes.
The number written in shows the answer.

What does this exercise practice?
Calculating with clock times and working out periods of time across the full hour safely.
Common pitfalls
Children often calculate with clock times like ordinary numbers, for example 9:00 minus 8:15 equals 85. It helps to use the step via the full hour, first counting up to 9:00 and then continuing.
How to practice at home
When planning the afternoon, ask how many minutes lie between two appointments, for example from training to dinner.
