Every knight has a shield with a number on it. Above it burn the beacons he has already lit.
When choosing, whoever has the most beacons goes first. When building it is the other way around - whoever is behind goes first.
If two knights have the same number of beacons, the higher shield number wins.

What does this exercise practice?
Whose turn? practices comparing and ordering numbers and turns sorting into a puzzle - the order has to be built first and then reversed.
Common pitfalls
When building, children often still name the knight with the most beacons. It helps to say the whole order out loud and then read it backwards.
How to practice at home
When playing a board game at home, try one round in reverse order: whoever won last time starts.
