The robot stands on a grid. You push it up, down, left or right.
Important - it then keeps sliding until a wall or a gray block stops it. It never stops on its own, not even on the target.
That is exactly why you need the blocks - they are your brakes. Work out beforehand which block stops the robot where you want it.
Below every grid it says how many moves you need. There is exactly one way that short. Draw it in with arrows.

What does this exercise practice?
The sliding robot practices planning ahead and tracking a route without any calculation. Because the piece cannot be moved a measured distance, the child has to plan several moves in advance and use obstacles deliberately as brakes. The given number of moves makes the result checkable - the child knows for itself when it is done.
Common pitfalls
The most common mistake is to push the robot only one square - but it always slides as far as it can. The second is to slide across the target and think it is done. It has to come to a stop exactly there. And a move that leads nowhere still counts - so it pays to try the route in your head first.
How to practice at home
Take squared paper, count out a 6x6 field and color a few squares as blocks. A coin is the robot, a cross is the target. Take turns sliding and count the moves - whoever arrives in fewer moves wins.
