When comparing you look at which number is bigger.
There are three signs for that: smaller (<), greater (>) and equal (=).
The open end of the sign always points to the bigger number.
Example: 623456 < 891234
623456 is smaller than 891234, so the point faces the 623456.
Tip: compare from left to right, place by place: first hundred thousands, then ten thousands, then thousands.
If one place is bigger, the whole number is bigger, no matter what comes after it.
