You compare two amounts, for example 2 kg and 1950 g.
Between them you put the sign smaller, greater or equal.
This is how you do it:
1. Put both amounts into the same unit.
2. Example: 2 kg is 2000 g.
3. Then compare the numbers: 2000 g is more than 1950 g.
In the examples below the sign written in shows the answer.
Example
2 kg>1950 g
1 l=1000 ml
For parents
What does this exercise practice?
Compare weights and capacities by converting them to a common unit.
Common pitfalls
Children often compare only the plain numbers and overlook the unit, for example with 750 g and 1 kg. Always ask first whether the units are the same.
How to practice at home
Take two packages from the pantry and decide together which one is heavier.
